Iran Begins State Funeral for Slain Supreme Leader Khamenei – July 4, 2026🇪🇭
Iran began days-long state funeral ceremonies for its late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran today, July 4, 2026.
Iranian state media said funeral events will run July 4–9, with processions in Tehran, a ceremony on July 7 in the holy city of Qom, and burial on July 9 in Khamenei’s hometown of Mashhad.
Khamenei, 86, who led Iran for nearly 37 years, was killed in Israeli and US airstrikes on Iran on February 28, according to Iranian state media reports.
Ahead of the processions, an Iranian military commander warned the United States and Israel against any attack on Iran during the funeral.
Authorities in Tehran have erected security checkpoints and black banners bearing Khamenei’s image across the capital, with officials preparing for millions of mourners.
This is a developing story.🇪🇭
